What Homeowners Say
FAQs
How long does a custom deck build take?
Most deck projects run 4 to 8 weeks from signed contract to final walkthrough, depending on size, complexity, and permit timelines. Your exact timeline is confirmed during the design phase.
What does a custom deck cost in Grand Rapids?
Why don't you list pricing by square foot?
Square-foot pricing is misleading. A simple 200 sq ft deck and a 200 sq ft multi-level composite deck with railing upgrades cost very different amounts. We price every project from its actual design — materials, elevation, structural complexity, features — so you get a real number, not a ballpark that changes when the design comes in.
Composite or wood — which is better?
It depends on how you’ll use and maintain the deck. Composite is lower maintenance, longer lasting, and performs better in Michigan weather, but costs more upfront. Wood (cedar, mahogany, pressure-treated) is warmer in appearance and lower in upfront cost, but requires annual staining or sealing.
What is a TimberTech Platinum Contractor
It’s the top tier of TimberTech’s dealer network. Platinum Contractors are vetted for craftsmanship, experience, and project volume. We get access to the premium AZEK Vintage and Landmark product lines and extended warranties that aren’t available to standard contractors.
Do you build multi-level and elevated decks?
Yes. Multi-level decks, walkout lower levels, second-story decks, and deck-to-patio transitions are some of our most requested builds. These are the projects where structural craftsmanship matters most — proper footings, lateral load ties, and framing that exceeds code.
Can you repair or rebuild an old deck instead of replacing it?
Sometimes yes. We assess the existing structure first — what can be saved, what needs to go. If the substructure is sound, we can often rebuild the decking surface, railings, and features while keeping the framing. If the structure is compromised, we rebuild from the footings up. Either way, you get an honest assessment before any work begins.
